About Me

My photo
We love to take family road trips - Dave, Susan, Morgan, Kendra and Kody when he can go too. We collect state magnets so we know what states we have been to, so we can plan the next vacation. I (Susan, mostly) am going to (try to) use this to share our family adventures. Vacations, events, and such. So needless to say, there won't be daily entries, and maybe not even monthly, but I'll post something, along with pictures, from time to time. So, if you're so inclined, check back once in a while.

The Site

So, H asked about our camp site. Since we didn't stay at our favorite KOA in Durango, we chose another campground...the Lightner Creek Campground. It was west of town, at the bottom of a canyon, a bit higher than Durango proper so it was cooler - just about 5 degrees. The sites are nestled in the trees, however a lot of the sites only have shade for part of the day. Many of them are direct sunlight for most of the afternoon. Ours was not shady until about 5 pm. But we were right next to the stream...and our awning did us OK while we were there. Both campgrounds have their pros and cons, but we prefer the KOA, probably because of Jay and Carol. Here's a picture of our site...from the stream.

The steam was very chilly, but the girls, and even Kody, liked it. It was mostly ankle deep, but there was one place that was up to their knees. No problem - they dried.
